Garden Design
& Planning

A productive garden doesn't start with plants — it starts with a plan matched to your specific conditions, goals, and growing calendar. Our design process begins with a full site assessment and ends with a document you can use as a reference for years of growing.

We design for food production first: crop rotation sequences, succession planting schedules, and companion planting layouts built around Seattle's specific pest pressures and microclimate zones.

Full site assessment: sun mapping, soil evaluation, water access
Crop rotation plan for minimum 3-year sequence
Succession planting calendar with exact dates for your zone
Companion planting map with evidence-based pairings
Variety selection matched to Seattle's climate and your taste preferences
Design document delivered in PDF format for your records

Raised Bed
Construction

We build raised beds to last 15+ years using clear-heart cedar or Douglas fir — both naturally rot-resistant and safe for food production. Every build includes site leveling, hardware cloth lining to exclude burrowing pests, and our layered soil build that creates a functioning soil food web from the first season.

Clear-heart cedar or Douglas fir construction — 2" thick minimum
Site leveling and drainage preparation included
Hardware cloth lining (1/4" galvanized) against gophers and voles
Four-layer SoilSage soil build — carbon base, compost, growing medium, mulch cap
Drip irrigation hookup and zoning (system quoted separately)
First planting and transplant sourcing from certified organic nurseries

Soil
Restoration

Depleted soil is the most common cause of underperforming gardens — and the most fixable. Our soil restoration program begins with laboratory analysis and ends with a biological amendment schedule that rebuilds your soil's native fertility and structure over one to two growing seasons.

We address compaction, drainage, pH imbalance, organic matter deficit, and biological depletion simultaneously — because these problems compound each other and need integrated treatment.

Laboratory soil panel: macro/micronutrients, OM%, CEC, pH
Amendment program based on lab results — no generic prescriptions
Cover crop selection and management for off-season soil building
Compost and biological inoculant integration
Compaction remediation without full tilling where possible
Follow-up lab panel at 6 months to measure progress
